Project Background
During the expansion of a large metal recycling and processing base in Fuyang, Anhui, a critical challenge emerged: the new workshop had a headroom of only 6.2 meters, far below industry standards, yet required lifting 10-ton scrap steel bundles. Traditional lifting equipment could not meet the needs due to insufficient lifting height, so the client urgently needed a solution tailored to low-headroom environments.
Needs Assessment & Solution Design
Harriet, Sales Manager at Yu’an Crane, collaborated with the technical team to define core requirements:
- Two 10-ton single girder overhead cranes covering a 24m-span workshop
- 6.2m workshop headroom, requiring maximum lifting height in limited space
- Equipment resistant to dust and high-intensity operations
- Support for continuous nighttime operations with fault warning and dual braking systems
To address the low headroom constraint, the technical team recommended a key solution: pairing the 10-ton single girder cranes with low-headroom electric hoists. These hoists feature a compact side-mounted design, providing an 80cm increase in effective lifting height compared to traditional models. This innovation allowed the 10-ton cranes to operate effectively within the 6.2m headroom. The main beams were also coated with wear-resistant anti-corrosion material, and electrical systems were fitted with dust-proof covers.
Custom Manufacturing & Quality Assurance
Production began with customized specifications:
- Main beams fabricated from Q355B high-strength steel, treated with shot blasting and polyurethane wear-resistant coating
- Low-headroom hoist components sourced from leading domestic brands for high-load stability
- Electrical boxes sealed twice for enhanced dust and water resistance
Mid-term factory inspections were conducted to verify the low-headroom hoist’s structural strength and lifting height, ensuring compliance with national GB standards.
On-Site Installation & Commissioning
The installation team completed track laying, assembly, and commissioning in 7 days. Precise calibration of the hoist’s operating clearance ensured no collision risk at extreme heights. Final tests confirmed the cranes achieved an effective lifting height of 3.5m under the 6.2m headroom, fully meeting production needs.

Specialized training was provided, focusing on low-headroom equipment operation and maintenance.
